About us

We are Jackie and John and we have lived in our bungalow for many years. We love people coming to stay and enjoy the peaceful countryside.

About our house

We have a large detached chalet bungalow set in a rural location near the hamlet of Clayhanger. The house is decorated and furnished to a very high standard and has hard wood flooring throughout.

There are two large double bedrooms for guests and our ensuite bedroom is in the dormer upstairs. The bathroom for guests has separate shower, toilet and basin and is next to the two bedrooms. The well-equipped family kitchen is next to our spacious family lounge with an extensive conservatory.

The house is set in landscaped gardens and has far reaching, panoramic country views. The garden has a summer house and workshop where John does wood work. There is also a vegetable plot. There are a few steps in the garden but level access to the front door which has a step up.
We have an annexe on the other side of the bungalow which is a holiday let. There is no access into the family part of the bungalow.

Who else lives here?

Just the two of us.

What we like to do

We like being with our guests, watching TV, making meals and chatting. We love going out to have lunch in country pubs and shopping. John does woodwork and grows the vegetables. Jackie loves baking cakes and making delicious meals for everyone. Our grandchildren come to stay sometimes and we love having them here.

Our experience as carers

Jackie is the main carer and has over 30 years experience of social care work. Until recently she was a Shared Lives carer for people who used to live long term with her and John. Before then, Jackie worked in residential care and also looked after her mother at home.
Jackie now provides short breaks for people needing a supportive break. Jackie also does respite for Shared Lives carers. The people who come to stay love coming back!

Who we can support

We can support many different people. Most people who come to stay may have learning disabilities. Other people may have mental health issues. Others have different disabilities.

We can also support people who need to learn new skills towards more independence.

Local area and community

Everyone who stays likes being here for the peace and quiet in the lovely countryside. Trips into Exeter, Tiverton or Taunton for shopping or lunch are available too. If you would like to try something different, just ask!
