About us

I (Sarah) have been supporting a variety of people both long term and for short breaks for over 13 years. I live at home with my daughter and a gentleman that I support who has lived with us for over 2 years. We are a happy, fun and supportive family who enjoy sharing our lives with the people we support.

About our house

Our house is a converted granite barn that sits in its own lawned garden with patios, fruit garden, orchard, pond, and is located on a working farm just 10 minutes walk from St Buryan Village.

The accommodation offers 4 bedrooms – all located on the ground floor with a family bathroom with a bath and overhead shower for the use of guests staying with me.

Who else lives here?

In 2022 the family comprises of me, the Carer (49), my daughter(10) , one gentleman I support long term (62 ) and a puppy (6 months). My parents (father & mother – also a Shared Lives Short Break Carer) live in an annexe adjacent to the house. My sister is also a Shared Lives Carer for 1 person she supports long term and others who visit for short breaks, and lives close by.

What we like to do

We are an active household and like trips out – shopping, cinema, walks, beach, day trips, theatre, weekend breaks, holidays. The person I currently support has a keen interest in cricket, football and snooker.

The people we support can join in much of what we do, or if they prefer, we will support them in accessing their own interests.

Our experience as carers

I have been a carer for over 13 years. Experienced at supporting people on the Autistic spectrum, with communication difficulties, learning disabilities, controlled epilepsy and mental health conditions.

I attend all SLSW training and in addition, have attended separate Autism training, TraumaInformedSchools training, speech and language delay and Sensory Processing Disorder. I have achieved the Shared Lives Award qualification.

Who we can support

Adults on the Autistic spectrum, with communication difficulties, learning disabilities, controlled epilepsy and mental health conditions.

Local area and community

St Buryan is a rural village but with plenty happening. There is a Community House with bar and events space, holding regular village events. There is a friendly pub (showing SKY Sports/Dart Board/pool table) and shop/post office. Plus St Buryan Parish Church and St Buryan Methodist Church. A thriving farm shop is just 10 minutes stroll from the house. There is a boxing gym, amateur football and cricket teams, yoga and fitness classes. In nearby St Levan is a private snooker club. There is a bus route taking you to Penzance/ Lands End.
