About us

My name is Sarah

About our house

The main house is a converted granite barn that sits in its own large lawned garden with patios and is located on a working farm. All four bedrooms and the family bathroom are on the ground floor. In addition, there is a small lounge on the ground floor, with TV access for service users. Upstairs is the main lounge, kitchen/diner with TV. Each bedroom has Freeview television access and the downstairs lounge also has Sky TV. SKY TV is available in bedrooms by arrangement. The house has a separate storage barn and utility room. There are steps to the front of the house but level access to the rear of the house.

The available rooms can accommodate a double or single bed, and are furnished with a wardrobe, drawers, bedside table, chair and TV (Service users can bring own furnishings).  One room has its own sink area.  Bedroom 1 overlooks the driveway and bedroom 2 overlooks the garden.

Who else lives here?

My eight year-old daughter and a person who uses Shared Lives services lives with us full time. My parents live in a small annex next to the house six months of the year.

What we like to do

Family life is busy with activities and we are happy to take services users out at weekends, on trips, breaks and holidays.  With a child in the family, we visit the beach and park regularly and enjoy walks.  We visit the cinema, theatre, like shopping, concerts and family occasions such as Sunday lunch together.

Our experience as carers

I have been supporting a variety of people both long term and for short breaks for ten years. This includes older people, people with mental health challenges, Autism, physical disabilities and epilepsy.

My mother, who lives in the annex next to the house, also provides short breaks. My sister who lives close by is also a Shared Lives carer and supports one person on a long-term basis.

Who we can support

This placement would suit an active person that likes to be at the heart of a close, caring family.

Local area and community

Our house is located 10 minutes’ walk from St Buryan village.  The village offers a shop/post office, both Church of England and Methodist churches, a friendly pub and petrol station alongside a Community House and village activities such as football and cricket teams.  Its rural setting offers spectacular views across to Land’s End. We are not far from the coastal towns of Penzance and Mousehole.  There is a bus service into Penzance from the village.
