Someone with a learning disability or some mental health needs
Near Exmouth seafront and not too far from town centre.
My name is Simone.
I have worked to support people, with different needs, in various different settings, for over 25 years.
I think it’s important to treat people fairly, as individuals, and with respect.
I like to support people to do the things they want to do, and to be able do as much as they can for themselves too.
I have a lovely modern, clean and light three bedroomed house, in a small close, with nice neighbours, in a nice part of Exmouth. I have quite a small back garden, with a beach theme, including a shed painted like a beach hut. It’s lovely for barbecues in the summer.
I live with someone else who uses Shared Lives South West services. I have three small dogs, who are lively and also love cuddles.
I can be quite lively, and enjoying going out, especially when the weather’s good! But I can also enjoy time at home. I am enjoying planning the next room to decorate, and growing flowers in pots in the garden. I like cooking, walking the dogs, and going on the beach. I like to go and watch bands playing music sometimes nearby.
I like planning holidays, watching TV, seeing family and friends, going out to eat.
Now my two children have grown up, I have been missing doing the things we used to like to do, such as day trips to different places, including sometimes animal parks. I would enjoy going out and about with people to places again
I have worked for over 25 years supporting people in health and social care. I have been a health care assistant, a support worker and then senior support worker and team leader, and adviser about work for people with learning disabilities.
In these jobs I’ve assisted people with things like: personal care; medication; household jobs; food preparation; shopping & managing money; learning to use public transport; preparing for work; activities; outings( including things like shopping, sports centres, cinemas, theatre, music) and social skills.
People with learning disabilities, people on the autistic spectrum, people with some mental health needs.
People who need enabling or some support, including to promote independence, social skills and life skills where needed. People could come to me for days, or overnight stays.
Exmouth is a lovely town, with a sea front nearby, not far from other beaches, the countryside, or Exeter. It has good public transport links, with buses, trains and taxis. There are various shops, cafes and restaurants. It’s a place where people with disabilities can feel supported, in the various shops and cafes, sports centre with swimming pool, Bingo, Bowling Alley, Music venues, Cinema, theatre, but also other clubs and activities, including ‘Rainbow’, ‘Magic Carpet’ (arts, crafts and drama), coffee mornings, and ‘Gateway Club’.
Exmouth also has nice parks and flowers, and open spaces such as ‘the Maer’ near the sea front – good for dog walking, picnics and barbecues.
