Become a Carer
Being a Shared Lives South West carer is more than a job. It’s a rewarding and flexible career, where you can help an individual with support needs to live a fulfilled life.
Sharing your life
Shared Lives is all about one household sharing their lives, families, home, interests, experience and skills with other people who need some help and support.
What is Shared Lives South West?
Award-winning charity Shared Lives South West, which has been established for almost 20 years, supports adults with learning disabilities, autism, mental health issues and dementia by matching them with a carer. Our assessed and trained carers then open their own family home to the person needing support.
The aim is for the person being supported to live the fullest life they can, be part of the community and maintain and promote new skills and independence.
It has sometimes been compared to adult fostering because the carer opens their own home to the person needing support.
It’s also seen as an alternative to supported living and residential care.
Shared Lives South West is proud to currently be rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission.
We provide support and accommodation for more than 500 people across Devon, Cornwall and Somerset
We have more than 300 approved and trained carers working with us across the South West
