Shared Family Living

If you live in a Shared Lives household, this is how we help you…

Living with a Shared Lives family

If you’d like to move in or go for a break with a Shared Lives family, you can meet a family and try it out to see if you’d like it.

You can have time to think about what you want. We are there to help you in any way we can to live the life you want.

What’s it like living in a Shared Lives household?

  • We will visit you to make sure you are OK.  You can tell us if you are happy, sad or if you are worried about something.
  • We will check you are getting the support you need and that you are enjoying your life with your Shared Lives family.
  • We want you to reach your goals.
  • We want you to be able to choose how you live your life.
  • We will sort out your money to pay for your support. You may have to have to pay towards it.
  • We will ask you what you like and dislike.
  • We will make sure your Shared Lives carer understands this and helps you to make it happen.
  • You will have your own bedroom and will share the rest of the home.
  • We can help you to join groups near where you live.
  • We can help you make new friends.
  • You will be supported to keep in touch with the people who are important to you.
  • You can learn things like cooking, cleaning, laundry and money skills.

“It’s good to be able to get on with things ourselves, but it’s also good to know there’s someone there to talk to for backup, advice and support, when we need it.”
