Simon Doughty has joined the Shared Lives South West team in the Devon office as a Finance Assistant.

Here we chat to him about how he is settling in…

How are you finding your new role  as Finance Assistnat at SLSW?

I’ve found it really nice and friendly. People have introduced themselves and I feel really welcomed.

I was in my last job for 23 years, so it’s a long time since I started a new job.

What were you doing before joining SLSW?

I was doing finance for a car parking firm. It’s a very different culture at SLSW where it’s centred around people, whether it’s the carers, people who are supported or the staff team.

What made you think about moving jobs if you’ve been in a role for such a long time?

We moved to Teignmouth in January from London. We bought a holiday home in Teignmouth in 2016 and was coming down six times a year and planned to move down next year.
After covid, we decided it was time to move earlier than we planned. So presently we are living in the holiday home and want to find our own home in Teignmouth.

I decided to go for the role at SLSW as I have a good finance background and an enthusiasm for the organisation.
I did my research and could really see the good work being done.

What do you enjoy when you aren’t working?
I like to play walking football, which is a good social thing for me. I also like spending time on the Teignmouth Back Beach with a good book. I’ve also bought a paddleboard, but I’m not very good at it.

What would you take to a desert island?

My wife Ruth, some 80s and 90s music and some books.
