Shared Lives South West

Shared Lives South West is a charity that recruits and trains carers who use their family home to support adults with learning disabilities, autism, dementia or problems related to mental health or older age.  This type of care is person-centred and an alternative to supported living or residential care.  We have been providing Shared Lives for over 20 years and are rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission.

Based in Kingsteignton, near Newton Abbot, we recruit short break carers and long-term carers for adults needing support throughout Devon, including Plymouth and Torbay.  Read our leaflets to find out more about Shared Lives South West and the different carer roles here.

Our carers enjoy training and social meet ups throughout the year; we hold bi-annual carer meetings as well as informal carer catch ups; we’ve held a Halloween party in Exeter, a drink and walk to enjoy the Torbay Christmas light trail, a visit to the Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth and a picnic in Haldon Woods.

Our team gets out and about in the community getting involved with support groups and hosting stands at Torbay Pride, the Neurodiversity Festival in Plymouth, wellbeing fairs in Tavistock, Torrington, Newton Abbot and Okehampton, Exeter Respect, the North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple, the Torbay Hospital and the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
