A Somerset Shared Lives Carer was honoured to attend a garden party hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla earlier this month at Buckingham Palace.

Paul Kendall was given the opportunity by Shared Lives Plus, which selected carers from around the UK to attend who have dedicated years of their lives as carers.

Princess Anne and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were also in attendance at the event, which was the first of the season.

Garden Party

Each summer, Royal Garden Parties take place to honour members of the public for community service, with around 30,000 people attending across the events.

“I represented Shared Lives South West, but as I started as a carer some 23 years ago with my now ex-wife, she also attended from Leeds with our young man, who we have raised and guided since he was seven years old, and I am still very much part of his life,” said Paul.2 300x300 - Somerset Shared Lives Carer attends garden party hosted by the King and Queen

“The day was a fantastic experience and the weather pretty much behaved, with only one small shower.”
