Shared Lives South West

Shared Lives South West is a charity that recruits and trains carers who use their family home to support adults with learning disabilities, autism, dementia or problems related to mental health or older age.  This type of care is person-centred and an alternative to supported living or residential care.  We have been providing Shared Lives for over 20 years and are rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission.

Our Cornish office is in Wheal Rose, Scorrier near Redruth and we recruit short break carers and long-term carers for adults needing support throughout Cornwall. Read our leaflets to find out more about Shared Lives South West and the different carer roles here.

Our carers enjoy training and social meet-ups throughout the year; we hold bi-annual carer meetings as well as informal carer catch-ups such as coffee and cake carer socials at Callington Library near Launceston. One of our carers was nominated ‘highly commended’ for the Best Carer Make a Difference Awards run by BBC Radio Cornwall.

You can find the Shared Lives team out and about across Cornwall. We hold stands at events like Blue Light Day at the Wadebridge showground, Cornwall Shop Small local events and markets, Christmas events, local farmers markets and drop-ins at community spaces and libraries across the county.

This year you’ll find us at Cornwall Pride events in Falmouth, Bodmin and Penzance, Saltash May day and Regatta, and the Cornwall Spring Flower Show. In the past, we’ve run beach cleans for our carers with Surfers Against Sewage and donated time to local charity Transformation CPR at Camborne food bank to help wrap over a thousand Christmas presents. We love getting out into the community and sharing the values of Shared Lives in this beautiful part of the UK.
